In Memory of Honey (11/10/1996-01/18/2007) What more can a person ask for than unconditional love and affection from their pet. That’s what Honey gave to me. Wherever I was, she was. Whenever I needed a friend, she was there and she always kept my secrets. Whether I wanted her by me or not, she was there, and that’s what made her so special. I’d walk out of the house to get the mail only to return a few minutes later and she greeted me like I was gone for hours. She would run around the family room at night with all her toys (or as many as she could hold) in her mouth with pride.

In her younger days, she would love to catch a tennis ball or Frisbee, but as years caught up with her, she would gradually walk over to retrieve them, still always wagging her tail on the way back.

When anyone came over, she always greeted them as they were her best friend, with hugs and kisses. She made everyone that came over feel special as if they were the only one in her life. Even people who didn’t really like dogs, appreciated her good nature. She attended obedience school twice as a puppy, only graduating by a hair but learned to never leave our yard unless she was with us. No fence was ever needed because she only wanted to be by her family and that’s all the world she needed.

And now… I walk alone. It is very quiet here and there is no need to vacuum everyday but how I wish there was. Honey was a very important part of our family and we will miss her very much. Honey did not pass on until we were all able to say our Good-Byes to her, that’s just how special and thoughtful she was. I thank God for the time we had with her and we will cherish her memories always.

Tribute to a Great Dog Alex became a part of my life on Oct. 8, 1989 just after my 40th Birthday. He was the last of three males at the breeder. He had a wonderful personality and loved to run and play with the other dogs. After watching him for a while, I knew he was the one for my family. The breeder agreed with my choice and she even shed a tear when I decided to take him home. He had become her favorite, too.

Alex was a wonderful companion. He loved water, playing ball, running up and down the hills. He played with the female golden retriever, Chelsea, next door everyday. When either was outside, they ran to greet each other and loved to chase after their favorite red ball.

Alex was a constant companion for my Maine Coon cat, Tigger. I know dogs and cats aren’t supposed to get along, but these two were buddies. They played, ate and napped together. Alex even learned to clean his paws after eating just like a cat and wipe off his face. Tigger lived 19 years and died shortly after my move to Ohio in 1998.

Alex adapted well to the move as he did to most things. He developed new friendships around his new Medina home. In November 2001, Nala, my female rottweiler, joined the family. At 12 years old, Alex was still very active and loved playing with Nala and the other dogs in the neighborhood.

Nala and I will miss Alex. Our last treat we shared was one of his favorites, a cheese bagel. He was a great companion, very affectionate and always happy. And that’s how I will always remember him.

In closing, I cannot say enough nice things about Sandy at Critters Keeper. She provided exceptional care for Alex and she truly cares for her “clients” as if they are members of her family. Thank you, Sandy for all that you do.
